SHA-256 hash

A hash turns any amount of text into a fixed-length fingerprint. Type below and watch it change.

Try this
  1. Type hello, then add one full stop. Almost every character of the hash changes.
  2. Type the same text again – you always get the same hash. Nothing is random.
  3. Clear the box. Even “nothing” has a hash.
  4. Can you work out what text produced a hash? Not without guessing – hashing only goes one way.
Puts everything back as it was.
