A block

A block holds data and a nonce. It is “valid” when its hash starts with four zeros. Finding such a nonce is called mining.

Try this
  1. Type something in Data. The block turns red because the hash no longer starts with 0000.
  2. Press Mine. The computer simply tries nonce 0, 1, 2… until a hash starts with four zeros. Watch the counter – there is no shortcut.
  3. Change the data again. The hash changes, so the work has to be done again.
Puts everything back as it was.
